I agree with you Hunter. A lot of people think they are persecuted when people disagree with them and they use that as an argument for their view. Cults and some Christians love to do this. This is definitely not real persecution. In the Bible persecution refers to being beaten, tortured, imprisoned and even killed. True persecution of Christians throughout history has always been at this level. It was never because someone disagreed. The false cry is designed to shut down conversation. How can we arrive at the real truth if we cannot communicate our thoughts and beliefs from our hearts out of fear of being accused of persecuting someone. We need to strive to disagree out of love for each other to correct wrongs and to come to the real truth. If we are doing anything less we are just arguing in the flesh in which the Bible is clear that we should avoid vain arguments. We should debate for a higher purpose and that is to learn, to discover the truth together with the help of the Holy Spirit our Helper. This is the kind of debating that pleases God.
