I got Mirena in November 2012 after years of unsuccessful pills and nuvaring. At the time I was having extremely heavy bleeding, and my Dr recommended the mirena. In her defense, the heavy bleeding did stop...to be replaced with almost constant light bleeding. She moved and just this summer I started going to a new Dr who said obviously the mirena was not helping. After an ultrasound to rule out other issues, he recommended removing mirena, having an ablation and inserting essure. He removed the mirena on Wednesday, and since then I've had my normal light bleeding. This morning I woke with the blood clots everyone is describing. My son (12) and I were shopping in another town and even with an overnight pad, I bled through my clothes and onto the seat of my car!! Fortunately I had on dark pants and it wasn't noticeable to anyone else, but my son was freaking out and I was super uncomfortable (and almost an hour from home), even with switching to a fresh pad. The Dr tells me that if all goes well the ablation should help until I go through menopause. I'm 41, so, what? 10 more years? So tired of period issues!!
