I agree with your interpretation of this scripture also, taking this scripture at face value, just like many other scriptures will give you the gospel of man, not the Gospel of Christ. To me, when I look at Christianity today, I see a bunch of people that have received the interpretation of the gospel according to what has been passed down from generation to generation. If you look at how interpretations of various scripture has changed throughout history, it is quite obvious that what has been passed down and slowly changed is the gospel according to man, not the Gospel of Christ. The misinterpretation of this scripture is just one example. It fits in with what feels comfortable to some people based on the traditional gender roles we have been taught that have nothing to do with Christianity.
The true Gospel of Christ will not be restored until Christ returns and then we will see that everything is so much different than what is being taught in churches today.
