Hi...unfortunately your story sounds all too familiar!

The bacteria that causes chronic severe halitosis very quickly morphs (adapt & continue proliferating)to just about every treatment you will find online or in the stores. So do not bother with those unless you want to keep a stash on hand for emergency situations only.

Therabreath works for a day or so for several hours at first if you drink a capful of it (literally)and then...nothing (if not worse breath). The oxygen drops work really well too, but they may make you bloated & gasy.

Profresh works really well for a day or so, but definitely do not ingest this stuff! I'm pretty sure its a low-grade bleach?! Smells just like it...Closys (found in stores) 'seems' to be a weaker cheaper version of this.

SmartMouth...yuck, 2 thumbs down (in my experience)...very metallic & ineffective

The doctor mentioned may be the answer, but personally I do not know.

In the meantime, this regimen will give you some relief.

Oral Care:
Brush with baking soda and coconut oil. Use diluted (mix with water 3:1) 3% hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash. The therabreath oxygen gum and mints are super expensive, but it does help a bit as you swallow more & more of the oxygen (magic cure all)it provides if you're chewing or sucking on one of their mint constantly.

Quick-Fix Internal Breath Control:
Active charcoal!! (breath management only, not curative). Beware that it will bind and remove anything toxic in its path (including prescribed & over-the-counter meds) so do not take 2-3 after or before meds.
High doses of Vitamin C & Potent Probiotics (Breath control & curative properties).

Diet:
- Avoid any known foods that increases your bad breath
- Avoid/greatly limit sugars, breads, and pastas etc
- Eat plenty of fresh,green veggies several times a day (Kale & Spinach)...it increases available oxygen in the body

Potential Complete Resolution:
Invest in Enzymedica Digest Gold, Ultimate Flora Probiotics (at least 50 billion, take at night & mid-day as you'll likely want to take the charcoal in the morning before classes begin)HCL tablets, quality Kelp, Zinc, and powdered ascorbic acid.

This is a good start. If you intend to try the "complete resolution" out just let me know & I will provide specific details on how to take it.

Poke root works really well for bad breath (at first), but you may benefit from continuing to take it for the anti-anxiety effect and lymphatic cleansing benefits! If so, read instructions carefully...a single drop or 2 goes a long way. Drop, NOT dropper full.
