Need iodine advice please

Hi guys

I'm brand new to this, so please bear with me. But I could really do with the benefit of your advice and experience.

I've suffered from fatigue and brain fog for years now, it seems to be progressively getting worse. A couple of years ago I went to a fatigue doctor who put me on magnesium, CoQ10 and B12. It didn't seem to help much, really the only thing that seems to help a little bit is resting more and having a good diet.

So, recently I came across the work of Dr. Brownstein and others which suggested to me that a) I could have undiagnosed hypothyroidism and b) Iodine could help. I have been tested for thyroid problems before and nothing found but I now gather that this was just a very basic TSH test which does not always give the whole picture. So I found a naturopath clinic that specialises in thyroid issues. So far on their advice I have done the following:

- Did the 24 hour Iodine loading test.
- Supplemented with B vitamins, selenium, zinc, magnesium, vitamin c and celtic Sea Salt , this started 2 weeks before starting iodine. They also have me on some adrenal support and detoxing herbal formulas.
- Then started iodoral, beginning 12.5mg a day and increasing each week until I reach 50mg. I'm currently on 37.5mg.
- They have also ordered a whole raft of blood tests including more detailed thyroid tests but I haven't yet found a doctor who is willing to order them for me.

So here are my problems and questions.

1. The Iodine loading test came back that I wasn't particularly deficient. But the naturopath said that this doesn't mean I don't need iodine, it could just mean that I'm not currently able to utilise it properly. So she put me on iodine anyway. Have you heard of this before, does it make sense?

2. I've been feeling a bit more tired since starting the iodine. But since I increased to 37.5mg I feel absolutely awful. Really tired and terrible dizziness, to the point that sometimes when I'm standing up I think I'm going to fall over. It comes in very strong waves. Also having trouble concentrating, headaches, feeling depressed and have a weird choking feeling in my throat. Sometimes when I cough, it's like a feeling of something fleshy and swollen in there moving.

I got scared by the extreme reaction and the dizziness was making it almost impossible for me to function at work. Plus I was worried that because I haven't been able to get blood tests, I don't know if I have Hashimoto's or something else and whether the iodine could make it worse (I gather this is a controversial topic). So I went off the iodine, I immediately feel less tired and the dizziness is getting better by the day. Weird throat feeling is still there though. If I was sure all of the above were just detox reactions I would try to push through it, but I just don't know what is going on.

3. I will continue trying to find a doctor to get the tests, but now I think about it, couldn't the iodine affect the results? Should I stay off iodine until I manage to get the tests?

Thoughts on any of the above much appreciated.
