Re: What is SSKI?
The uptake of iron is a complicated matter, or maybe not. To pour in large amounts of iron; frequently doesnt work.
Think co factors, also diet of course.
When I was pregnant with my first one I was terrible low. Second one I managed to keep a good level just by taking vit E (for storage of iron) and vit B, C (for the uptake).
If the diet is good; the iron is re-absorbed in the bowels, with vit C. So you dont need that much iron.
Vit E further help with the storage.
I learned this from an acupuncturist, never found studies to confirm it, but it worked with me.
Also keep in mind that zinc and iron compete in uptake, same as zinc / magnesium. Taking all three, but not at the same time; may help. All depends on a good vit B level; as B6 is needed for uptake for all these.
Stay away from multi vitamins; to this day I havent seen one that is good enough.
