Do you need a stirrer for your generator?

After years of using Colloidal Silver I've wised up to the fact that I should just make mine at home. Figure I'm going to attempt to make it or get one of the less expensive ones around the 70 to 100 dollar range. Only thing I'm confused on is reading about using a stirrer or a magnetic stirrer? I can't seem to find consistent information. Some people seem to claim this will cause your silver to come out better. Other people seem to say it's just more of a gimmick and not needed. Truthfully I'm not to worried about using one. But I figured I would ask if there is really necessary or makes a huge improvement? Also if you have any suggestions on less expensive silver generators I would appreciate that as well.
