Biliary pain often after surgery too

Biliary pain is a general name used to cover a number of conditions.

A large gallstone moving down the common bile duct can cause a sudden sharp pain which can last for a second or give the most excruciating pain last four hours or more.

Congestion of the bile duct in the liver disrupts the flow of blood and may cause liver stress which causes a tight pain in the upper abdomen.

Fatty livers cause pain.

Congestion in the gallbladder and liver can become infected causing pain.

Poor gallbladder emptying can give rise to a dysfunction of the sphincter that control bile flow causing swelling of the gallbladder wall which is painful.

A gallbladder full of stones can lead to thickening of the gallbladder wall and discomfort.

There are a number painful condition that are under the same umbrella. However, they cause pain in different places and at different times of the day.

Gallstones is commonly a sign of a problem in the liver rather than a isolated disease. Consequently, many, perhaps 50% of people who have their gallbladders removed return to the same pain after 2 years that prompted them to seek help in the first place. This is because the root cause wasn't treated.
