Hello, Newbie to Iodine Site Here
Hello, I've been following this forum since around November 2013, after reading "The
Iodine Crisis," which was one of those Kindle "due to your reading choices, you may like" suggestions. I've been using
Iodine since then, first a bottle of 2%
Lugols from J. Crow ordered through Amazon, and now a bottle of 5% from Risingsun Nutritionals, also through Amazon. In addition, around the time of my 2% purchase, I also bought two bottles of "Survival Shield" nascent
Iodine from the Infowars website. As my bottle of 5%
Lugols is coming to an end, I just sent a check off to Trapper last night for his sampler special, plus an additional bottle of
SSKI to take advantage of his June special offering.
I became interested in iodine after reading the above mentioned book as I seem to have so many of the symptoms of iodine defficiency. On top of that, both my brother and my mom are hypothroid, so I suspect I am too. I'm a 55 year old male, who had a couple of health scares last year.
The first problem was a painful kidney stone, which I had removed. So that locked me in with a urologist, who wants his quarterly co-payment. After removing the stone, he started looking at my PSA level. I had two tests done, and both were elevated. He was itching to do a biopsy, but after reading about the procedure and talking to a couple of guys who have had it done, I said, "no way." I found online that certain things can trigger false readings and knew I could bring the numbers down. (Hint to guys, don't have an ejaculation within 48 hours before the test, and certainally don't do so an hour or so before you have blood drawn.) My urologist seems disappointed that I brought the number way down from where it was, seems he had the needle sharpened and waiting for me.
The second scare was after a colonoscopy later in the year. That doctor found a suspicious "polyp" that he couldn't remove, so I had surgery for that. It turned out to be scar tissue, so I feel that was an unnecessary expense and suffering. Between the urologist going in the front and the other surgeon in the back, my muscles still haven't fully recovered, and the second surgery was done back in October during the government shutdown.
Anyway, after the ordeal of recovering from that surgery, I decided to take matters in my own hands. I have been taking cumin seed oil, after reading John Gray's free PDF book on ADHD from his Mars/Venus website as I sometimes have trouble with focus on the job. I think that could be due to being tired of doing the same thing for "the man" for the last 29 years. I am also taking tumeric. It was after reading a book on that spice that The Iodine Crisis was recommended by Amazon, so I thought I'd try iodine, which I was already interested in due to the Fukishima disaster.
I should also mention that I have high blood pressure and cholesterol, which I'm taking medication for and have taken tranquilizers off and on for the last twenty years for anxiety. Have not taken the anxiety meds since I started with iodine.
Iodine is one interesting ride. Starting with just a few drops of the 2% (can't remember the exact amount), I would do great for a couple of days, then get a cold or flu, which would last for a week or longer. After recovering, I would start the Iodine again and be well for about a week, then get another round of "flu." This happened three or four times in a row. I think some was legitimate illness as there was something going around work at the time, but I think it was detox too. I forgot to mention that the first couple of times I tried iodine, I was so fatigued that all I could do was sleep for a day. Glad that happened on weekends so it didn't interfere with work (the colds required a few days off).
I am now up to +-8 drops of the 5% Lugols. Not quite daily, I take a break of a day or two a week and when detox gets to be too much. My goal is 16 drops on a steady basis for a few months, then dropping back to a maintenance level. My main detox complaint is the moods. With the down turn of the country and the feeling I have mad poor choices in life, especially employment-wise, I am becoming an "angry old man." My attitude at work was so bad last week that I was almost ready to go back on the tranquilizers. Then I reminded myself about the detox, ate some Himalyan salt and stopped the iodine for a couple of days.
I have about a half bottle of Survivor Shield left that I haven't been using as much lately. I like it as I take it sublingually, but due to the cost, I don't know if and when I'll buy some more.
I have been doing most of the accompanying nutrients, except for the salt push as I crave salt the way it is and eat a lot already. always have been attracted to salt, as a kid, I always wanted to see wat a salt lick tasted like. Now I find myself sucking on the big Himalyan crystals on occasion. I am also taking lithium oroate semi-regularly to help my mood, but I'm kind of afraid of taking too much of that. I think of hard core mental patients when I think of lithium.
As I said above, I've been reading here since November of last year, but just joined up today. I have been reading from page 1 and am up to page 114 as of yesterday. Must say I don't care much for Curezone's web interface, it's a little bothersome to navigate through the back postings. I wasn't going to post here until I had read the whole forum, but Knowledge Seeker's post about the niacin flush prompted me to relate my experiences. Jethro Bodine was not my first choice for a handle, it was "International P l a y b o y," But Curzone does not allow that second word. I loathe political correctness.
Don't know how vocal I'll be here, probably just lurk most of the time. But I have enjoyed my reading so far and feel I know a bunch of you already. Will try to keep up with my insights and breakthroughs with iodine. I'm looking forward to trying Trapper's products and I get a feeling that they are superior to the ones I've used so far. I am also interested in trying some of Wombat's products If I can time it right to get in on one of her batch offerings.
(Wow am even less impressed with Curezone's format. Typed the above in WordPad and lost all paragraph breaks when I pasted it into the message body window. Guess I'm going to have to remember my HTML tags from the old days.)
