Re: Candida leaky gut diet and supplements
Hi Jez,
All good questions.
1) On average, I go through about five, 500 gram, bottles of ascorbic acid per month. Believe me, that is a bargain [at $10 to $15 per bottle], with no drugs to buy, no doctors to pay, and no health insurance premiums to pay [not to even mention the pain and (time) inconvenience I avoid, i.e. by never getting sick]!
2) Not exactly. What I am saying is that the healthier/cleaner one's GI tract is, the higher their Bowel Tolerance becomes. That has a two-fold beneficial effect upon one's health: 1) A cleaner GI tract always results in better health, because of the greater [toxin/waste, etc.] elimination ability of the body [and the greater nutrient absorption ability of the body]; and 2) It allows ingesting more ascorbic acid, thereby increasing the amount of toxin neutralizing/antioxidizing electrons in the body [and other health benefits of higher tissue saturation with/of ascorbate].
3) I have no "target!" My "target" is to ingest as much ascorbic acid as I can, i.e. as my body wants/needs/is willing and able to absorb. The more I ingest/absorb, the better my health seems to keep getting! And that is even as I continue to age [I'm currently 64], no longer do any exercise whatsoever, and my diet is not as healthy as it once was.
In this regard, Jez, this quote from Dr. Robert Cathcart, M.D. [a doctor who personally "prescribed" Bowel Tolerance doses of ascorbic acid to over 25,000 patients, over a 35 year career] is instructive: "I have seen enormous increases in bowel tolerance to ascorbate in adults, several hours before there was any outward sign of their getting sick." You see, Jez, you never know what is going on in/with your body [at any particular time]; you never know [for sure] what you are ingesting with the air you breath, the water you drink, and/or the food you eat; whether the next minute you will be bitten/stung by a poisonous bee, spider, ant, and/or snake, and/or scratch yourself with a rusty nail, etc., etc., etc., [almost ad infinitum].
My view, Jez, is to be pro-active, by keeping my tissues in as saturated a state, with ascorbate, as I possibly can. The health results to me [from this regimen] have been very worthwhile, to say the least! Has this been an inconvenient burden? Far from it, e.g. I spend less than 5 minutes per day swallowing upwards of 100, one-gram, tablets of ascorbic acid [in 10 to 15 divided doses], typically 6 to 10 at a time. A little practice is all it takes.
I hope that helps, Jez, as "grist for your mill." If you have any other questions, comments, and/or concerns about ascorbate "therapy," by all means post them or [feel free to] contact me privately.
Best wishes, Jez,
David
