Re: Necessary to test hormones too?
To add to the other great replies, having all the hormones tested really gives a bigger picture of your endocrine health and where imbalances are.
Also do consider that the adrenals, thyroid and ovaries/testes function together, so if one gland is underfunctioning or overfunctioning it can throw the production of hormones out in the other glands.
If you know your levels you are able to then understand which symptoms are caused by your hormone results.
I had this real deep angst, aggitation...like i could turn into Hulk at any moment, my skintone changed from porcelain to red for 2 yrs...still ongoing...my T test revealed i have T levels of a man (im a woman!) and less E2 and Prog than the average man also!
Low E2 and Prog. are the cause of many of my symptoms, like bone fragility, low neurotransmitters, no libido whatsoever (despite my T levels!) etc....the functions of these hormones go beyond procreation - they're essential for many body functions which slowly decline if E2, Prog and T become out of balance.
If anything i think the T, Prog. and E2 tests are just as essential as the diurnal cortisol, DHEAs, thyroid etc.
If i had not have got the results from my Prog, T and E2 i would still be scratching my head wondering what the hell is causing my health to nose-dive.
IMO, the extra money to get the info is REALLY worth it yet many people and doctors don't bother testing them.
Saliva levels are best to get for all hormones verses blood.
