How often should I get a chiropractic adjustment?

I have been suffering sacral pain over the past few weeks, and my doctor suggested that I see a chiropractor. I was referred to one by a friend at work and went to see him yesterday. After an examination,infared test & x-rays He said that my C1,C2 & C3 are extremely imbalanced. His suggested adjustment care schedule is as follows:

3x per wk for 4 wks
2x per wk for 8 wks
1x per wk remaining 40wks to complete a full year. (68 visits total)

This seems excessive to me and very costly at $35 per visit (co-pay) $2,380. He did offer a payment plan that would be $1,850 for the whole year. It just seems strange to me.

I am planing to see another chiropractor for a second opinion but I would love to get some advice from everyone here.
