Re: Candida and Red Scrotum Syndrome
I am in the process of healing from Red Scrotum Syndrome. Had a similar episode in 2011 for which I was given 4 different diagnoses and a variety of meds, creams and ointments that did not help and often made the condition worse. The turnabout came from a doctor at a walk-in clinic in another state where I'd gone to visit friends. The dx was "shingles" and doxycycline and acyclovir were prescribed, and after having had this problem for 6 weeks it finally cleared. It started to return in 2012 and I saw another dermatologist who gave me another diagnosis and Meds that didn't work. Finally got the doxy and acyclovir which cleared it
Recently got RSS, likely from too much sugar, caffeine and nuts. Saw a doctor at urgent care who didn't know about the syndrome but actually listened. He prescribed doxycycline, fluconozole for possible clamydia (which I didn't ask for but nonetheless took just in case clamydia was involved) and Bactroban cream (I knew that
Antibiotics tend to make the problem worse and tried it one time but it felt like I had acid on my scrotum after about 10 minutes). I started taking Acyclovir which I had left over from 2012 (I initially I had myself on too low a dose but when I upped it to 500 mg 2X and then 3X per day things started improving more rapidly.
Even though most of the doctors will scoff at the shingles diagnosis, see if they will give you medications they normally use for it, mainly acyclovir or famcyclovir and doxycycline. Also, read the research of George Eby on the use of zinc in the treatment of shingles and other hepatic viruses. Get some powdered zinc gluconate, mix one teaspoon in one cup of water, and make compresses to put on the scrotum for up to 1/2 hour a couple of time per day. The compresses came be stronger, but also weaker if there is any burning sensation. Use the compresses after you are healed and notice a return of scrotal itching. Use daily until days or weeks after the itching is gone.
Hope this helps someone out there. This is a nightmare syndrome.
