Re: Please help - suspected bad infestation
Mebendazole is worthless. I'm convinced it only exists for placebo effect ala "delusional parasitosis". I was tested twice for ascarisis and was treated three times with mebendazole before my doctor started giving me the delusional treatment even despite testing positive twice. He didn't even want to do it again the second time but reluctantly agreed, and by the time I had the third round and went back and said i was still symptomatic he refused to do it again, basically implying it was all in my head and that it works "100%" of the time, with no answer at all why I'm still testing positive. He said he would consider revisiting it after atleast 3 months.
Anyways, after numerous curezone recommended flushes and hardcore internet-MD research, I went to my University doctor instead who was basically an old friendly guy who had no idea about this stuff. I showed him a legit published medical encyclopedia indicating that mebendazole should be prescribing when the patient is asymptomatic, while albendazole should be prescribed when the patient is symptomatic. Surprisingly, the doctor actually took my advice and prescribed a round of albendazole!
Cleared up the whole thing in about a week, no longer had symptoms or visible signs in bowel movements, and even got tested again by the university and finally came back negative.
Anyways sorry for the rant, but TLDR: mebendazole is absolutely worthless. It shouldn't even be considered as a viable treatment for anybody on here, it should be shouted loudly at any post mentioning it or a doctor recommending it. As far as I'm concerned it's only use is for clueless doctors to thumb it at nervous patients who just visited from a third world country, but anybody who has confirmed symptoms of a parasitic infection, albendozal is the only way to go.
