it seems with further study the entire seed can be used..i retrieved an autumn pumpkin from the garden and whizzed the seeds through a handheld soup blender first before putting the mixture through a coffee grinder. Added some water and salmon oil from capsules(for health and to make it more appetising) just enough to bind the mixture and compress it into 1/2 tsp pellets from a measuring spoon(1/4 tsp per meal for a cat based on 2 meals a day apparently)placed on a baking tray to then freeze..then bagged them up and there's enough for 4months from 1medium sized pumpkin!!!! one is defrosted each day and crumbled then mixed in with the food..It was a pleasant relaxing evening production process, much like shelling peas.. with music on in the background and a glass of wine..very satisfying.
