No sooner did my beloved cat pass over then a young ginger tom cat started visiting and eating bread and birdseed on my garden lawn and can only assume it is a stray, or has worms! From what I have read too, it's really dangerous in cats to starve or go hungry ie not eat..for more than three days, thereafter irreversible damage can happen thats why when they go off food it's to take note and seek help or address it pronto.
That's why i'm feeding him..it eats huge amounts in one go
and yesterday even after he bolted his food on his way out of the garden he even stopped to pick up raw pumpkin seeds i had thrown out for the birds and squirrels!!!
My question is..pumpkin seeds...as a dewormer...do you husk them for the seed inside or do the husks contain the deworming properties?

This is a reply to # 2,139,437it seems with further study the entire seed can be used..i retrieved an autumn pumpkin from the garden and whizzed the seeds through a handheld soup blender first before putting the mixture through a coffee grinder. Added some water and salmon oil from capsules(for health and to make it more appetising) just enough to bind the mixture and compress it into 1/2 tsp pellets from a measuring spoon(1/4 tsp per meal for a cat based on 2 meals a day apparently)placed on a baking tray to then freeze..then bagged them up and there's enough for 4months from 1medium sized pumpkin!!!! one is defrosted each day and crumbled then mixed in with the food..It was a pleasant relaxing evening production process, much like shelling peas.. with music on in the background and a glass of wine..very satisfying.

This is a reply to # 2,140,733Hello..nearly a year on and just want to confirm that the pumpkin seeds really do work. How do i know?
I became complacent giving them ( yes two stray cats now!) the pumpkin pellets together with having to go away for a good while.
They both became almost desperate hungry hanging about their bowls even though they had been fed daily, i even increased the portions to satiate their hunger and it made no difference.
I remembered the pumpkin pellets and dug them out of the back of the freezer and gave them double doses for about three days...after which they became noticebly relaxed content even leaving left over food on the plates.
It's autumn again and having observed the contrast of before pumpkin seeds and after.. am reassured and very happy to make some more for the comfort and health of the kitties. Yes pumpkin seed works!
