Iodine long-term
OK so I am new to iodine, never had any known thyroid issues but lots of symptoms incl fibrocystic breasts. Anyway after three attempts, horrible detox stuff and lots of advice (thanks to Grizz for the dosage recommendation) I have finally found a low dose that seems to be suiting my body, only 1.5mg per day and so far so good as I am feeling great, more energetic than I have felt for a while. So that’s all good…
But my query is this. I get that there are detox symptoms, I fully understand there is a period of feeling lots worse before one can start to feel better. But usually this is in the first few months of detoxing isn’t it? So why am I reading in some places of people who have been supplementing high doses of
Iodine for 12 months or more and then suddenly getting swollen thyroids or horrible rashes or Hashimotos when previously they had no such symptoms? I still find the whole
Iodine thing quite scary and certainly don’t want to be doing more damage to my body. I haven’t yet read Dr Brownsteins book but have ordered it and am eagerly awaiting it in the post but in the meantime some reassurance is needed. I also recently read a medical news article about people buying over the counter
Iodine supplements and doing damage to their thyroids – I know, scaremongering and pharmaceutical propaganda is most likely but I would also be stupid if I didn’t do my research and look at both sides of the debate. I would like to hear from or about people who have used high dose iodine successfully for years.
