My son underwent open heart surgery (due to a VSD) to 3.5 months. I just learned by chance that the surgeon removed the thymus "because it bothered vision and prevented from reaching the heart." The surgeon told me that it was not serious, it has no effect, we do it all the time, during open-heart cardiac surgery in infants, etc.. but I believe that if it is very serious.
Do you know what are the consequences for my child to live without thymus from its 3.5 months? What can I do to help?
Do you also know if the thymus is systematically removed during open-heart surgery in infants?
Thank you in advance for your help and answer!
Yours
