Re: is this safe?

Dr Dan Pompa mentions the issue of chlorella's effects on Hg in the gut in this discussion.

I can't say it makes any sense to me to use chlorella, cilantro and other high thiol supplements (NAC, MSM, etc) while on round with thiol chelators.

Remember LA, DMSA and DMPS are di-thiols. They have two SH/thiol groups (mercury magnets) with which to more effectively bind to Hg++ (with two magnets).

In contrast cysteine has only one SH group.

You don't want Hg in parts of the body that are not so vulnerable to Hg to end up in some part of the body that holds onto Hg tightly and is quite vulnerable to it. For example the mice in this study that received ALA *infrequently* excreted more Hg than control mice but also ended up with *more* Hg in the brain and some organs!
