About six months ago I got a routine blood test done and it showed a TSH level of 5.33. This compared to 4.18 in 2012, 3.11 in 2011, and 3.87 in 2010. My doctor was concerned it was rising into the high zone.
I decided at that point to supplement with Iodine and started with about 180 mcg per day and increased it to the current 2400 mcgs per day I'm taking now.
Anyhow, I went back to get a blood test a week ago and it has come back with my TSH at 15.13! For this blood test, I asked to get Free T3 and Free T4 results also, which I have never had before. Apparently the T3 is fine at 4.1 pmol/l and the T4 is on the low borderline at 12 pmol/l.
What does this all mean? Shouldn't the Iodine help my thyroid function? Why did the TSH soar?
