Experience with dealing with people who don't believe Graves disease is a disease

Does anyone here who has Graves Disease have any experience dealing with relatives/friends who think that Graves Disease isn't real?

My father flat out told me yesterday that I was just faking it (I was having a panic attack) and I was self-indulgent and selfish.

Is there any point at all trying to talk to someone like this? It is so stressful for me to be around him I am inclined to stay away indefinitely.
