Re: Dr. Lam proves my theory that AF is really under-eating
maybe, for me I disagree because I knew I had serious stress issues for decades. After my divorce I really flipped out and now know adrenaline was pumping through my system like crazy and it went on for several years. I had AF then but didn't know for 5 more years. I made the rounds of conventional doctors and was given lousy medicine, even bad medicine that wasn't right for me. It wasn't until I researched cortisol that the puzzle came together for me. It's been a Hell I don't ever want to repeat. I read lots of articles and found the similarities in programs. I read this forum, Dr Lam and Dr Wilson. I went with Lam (I was not making any progress with self navigation) because he takes it to the cellular level and his approach is the most holistic, that yoga is important and so is learning to curb "excitement"; as well as diet and supplements. For several reasons it took me 2 years before everything started to click and I got to know what it was like to not feel sick and exhausted and so many other things. I can control it now; I have "tools" that work. I still live what I call a restricted life (go to bed early and try to eat right, how boring) plus my supplements. Resting, not working and self navigation did not work for me. Some of their supplements are awesome and they are all fine quality and no more expensive than the health stores. Licorice was a Godsend. I am convinced like both Dr. Wilson and Dr. Lam that this condition in various different stages is common. Dr. Lam is not perfect; it was my GP that found my vitamin D deficiency. And I've seen documentaries with Drs that focus on anti aging and brain health. Dr. Daniel Amen says we should all know our vitamin D level just like we know our blood pressure, etc. and these drs say very much the same things as Lam; only with AF I think you need more fat and protein. I'm sorry I go on and on and on... because it had such a deep impact on my life, quality of life, and relationships. My cortisol levels are still in the low normal range, dipping below normal late afternoon. I hope I can get it better. no other medical test shows anything not normal except cortisol. and my estrogen was sky high and low progesterone; just like Lam said. My OB kept giving me more pharmaceutical estrogen without ever checking to see if that was what I really needed and that's standard conventional treatment for women after menopause. I am of average weight and have never had an eating disorder. Altho a typical American diet is far from healthy. To say my problem was not AF but an eating disorder is so far off the mark; I wish it were that simple.
