I absolutely see this in my family.

My mom was involved in a motor vehicle accident 2 months before she gave birth to me. It involved trauma to her belly. I have no doubt this prenatal imprint is a major cause of my "high stress / Type A / adrenaline junkie" personality.

Mom's side = weak thyroids.

Dad's side = weak adrenals. Both of my grandparents had full blown AFS by the time they were in their 70s. I remember my grandmother having bags under her eyes, easily started, the tinniest of stressors causing her to "crash." My grandfather had hypoglycemia and a "cortisol gut" so big it looked like he swallowed a watermelon.

Now my father is in stage 3b AFS. He is a workaholic and "group activity addict" ...7 days a week without rest... for over 50 years. Low blood pressure, hypoglycemia, brain fog, all kinds of muscle and joint pains, bags under his eyes, can't "get going" till afternoon due to low cortisol, insomnia. He refuses to acknowledge it exists.

It is a very painful and frustrating situation for me to watch as I have ALREADY been through this... he is still at a stage before the rapid downfall where he could probably be stabilized with a better diet, B & C Vitamins and adequate rest... but he F$#@KING REFUSES. He is in denial, sypathetic dominant... doesn't want to stop eating Sugar and doesn't want to stay home and rest.

Very hard to watch... when I could help him feel so much better.

My mom and brother are in Stage 2 AFS... the hypoglycemia hasn't hit as hard so their diet is not as terrible... and they occasionally take a day off... and they are not in denial or rebellious against any suggestions... so I think the are in much better shape.
