Some good news for a change

My son has gone from strength to strength recently. Last year I was advised to give him a probiotic and I ended up giving a soil based one and this caused his candida to grow out of control really badly, so bad in fact that I thought he would never recover. His intolerances went through the roof which meant I could not treat him with natural antifungals, at the same time as giving him the probiotic which was Kiki soil based one the doctor doubled up his dose of calcium citrate and it burned his insides badly enough to need omeprazole and then ranitidine of which I have had terrible trouble getting him weaned from. The hospital did not recognise a candida overgrowth so I sought a private paediatrician who did and he was put onto nystan of which he could not tolerate more than 3 to 4 droplets at a time and at first only 2 droplets and eventually he did build up resistance to it. Diflucan was also tried last year but we could not get him up above a few droplets at a time either. His diet was avocado, brown rice and meat.

Now for the good news, I started to give him rice bran oil at night time which not only helped him sleep through the night but helped to heal him inside and I only started to give him 1 tsp at a time.

Then 8 weeks ago we tried a different make of fluconazole which he could tolerate at the full dose, I split the dose up through out the day as the doctor said it did not matter as long as he got the full 5 mils. I was told to give him lactobacillus gg which is made from Culturelle at 1 billion a day which is a very small dose but he could not tolerate it so I waited unti 6 weeks had gone then started again and he could tolerate it, he is now on 3 billion and tolerating very well without belching.

Two weeks ago he was in hospital and they gave him medication to clear all his gut flora out and it has taken two weeks for him to recover but now I have my boy back again. Sadly this has to be repeated because they did not have time to follow up with the procedure of a biopsy.

The best bit is my sons intolerances to foods is slowly improving, he now loves ground almonds and almond milk, he eats meat and avocado, cucumbers without the skins, he loves turnip chips and can tolerate a tomato.

When I feel how desperate I was this time last year and how worried I was for him, I feel my prayers did not go unheard of in vain.

Right now my husband is taking him for a turn in the garden as it is a lovely sunny day and we keep him out there to get a top up of vitamin d which is so important.

I have to keep my son on the fluconazole for a few more months yet and the paediatrician wrote to my doctor to ask her to prescribe it and she is so I get it on the National Health Service.

The key to his success was the rice bran oil which enabled him enough healing to be able to take the fluconazole. The Culturelle probiotic is going well and although I feel a little on guard using it I know it is the only probiotic that has been properly researched for it's benefits to the human population so I will continue to go slow with it, using minimal amounts and gradually building up over time but I have managed to get my son down to a quarter of a ranitidine table since he has been on it so that has got to be really good.

From where we were last year to where we have come now, my sons life has improved much and I really hope it continues.
