Re: Hormones / Thyroid / Adrenals
From what i gather so far MCW, cortisol production is made a priority by the body and will use all available pregnenolone to supply cortisol, even if that means a lowering of all other hormones.
So generally the adrenals are treated first to try to strengthen them, so they produce more cortisol themselves and dont steal pregnenolone to make up a possible deficit.
So in theory with the adrenals stronger, pregnenolone can continue pathways to make estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, aldosterone.
Also with better functioning adrenals the T3 from the thyroid has a job to do finally, so thyroid function should improve with adrenal improvement.
It depends where you're at with depletion and imbalance of this axis - if mild then adaptogens and rest, restriction of stress, vit C, B5 etc help to build-up adrenal strength.
If all hormones are low of all glands, and the situation is severe with severe symptoms it will take a while to rebalance, and to take the strain off of the thyroid and adrenals and hormone production it is possible to take Isocort, HC, dessicated thyroid, and bio-identical hormone support, while supplying the body with all nutrition to build up these glands so that the above treatments can be tapered-off eventually.
I highly recommend the book and website "Stop the Thyroid Madness" for info on the relationship of the adrenals with the thyroid and hormone production, aswell as Lam's articles on his website.
