Re: Need some support/advice!
Lugols can damage normal skin, but not permanently. The skin will just shed a layer and then underneath will be beautifully healthy young looking skin.
But to prevent
Lugols from getting to skin, you can apply lanolin or petroleum jelly. I prefer the former: it is healthier (lanolin is also excellent for baby bottoms as well as the delicate skin of your lips). The
Lugols will not be able to get through this thick oil enough to cause any damage.
If you use
Lugols 7%, then only repeated application will damage the skin. I can put a thin layer of 15% on skin one day and not damage the skin, but I can't repeat that the next day without damaging the skin. I use 5% Lugols if I want to apply repeatedly, but even then I don't use a thick layer.
My husband has these yeast spots on his body all over. We treat these by first applying lanolin to the surrounding skin and then smothering the yeast spot in 15% Lugols. That way, only the spot we want to treat gets Lugols, the surrounding skin remains the same.
Any skin you treat with Lugols will turn yellow/brown (depending of the thickness of the layer). So treat your face at night. If you don't put it on too thickly, the remains should wash off during your morning shower.
For your face, you could also use high
Iodine skin cream from Wombat. It's a lovely day and night cream. It doesn't colour your skin, but still holds a lot of iodine. I use this every day.
To combat zits (from my bromide detox), I put 5% Lugols on them at night. If I do this immediately after they appear (they don't have their white head yet), then the next day there are gone completely. I use a q-tip to apply the Lugols very thinly.
I also use the 5% on open wounds. I find that the 15% on an open wound is just too high a concentration: it hurts the skin too much. My experience is that wounds heal better and faster when you apply Lugols.
By the way, by Lugols 15% I mean the kind with 5 gram I2 and 10 gram I- (13 gram KI) per 100 ml of solution.
