Re: why do people ‘troll’?
Immediate thoughts on why most people troll fall into completely different categories:
1. Money - Someone or something is paying people to troll. For example, Apple paying a group to troll competitors and vice-versa. Political trolls play a role too, intertwined with money to destroy politicians or their causes.
2. Beliefs - Conflicting beliefs can aggravate emotions and cause anyone to become a troll, rapidly. Mainstream teaches that X is true, then someone claims X is false - hardcore believers in X is true become upset at someone for believing anything other than X is true, for example, and troll on.
3. Boredom - Some people, often infantile in mind, with nothing to do will troll for the sheer enjoyment of heightening others' emotions to heighten their own. Expect all types of fallacies spewed from trolls, especially character attacks, regardless of truth to generate some type of reaction. The reaction from someone being trolled often gives trolls further energy to troll for more fun.
To kill a troll, simply do not feed them any indication of interaction. Obvious trolls want a ban usually, by the way. Unfortunately, if people listen to real-world conversations, many of them are troll-like in nature. Anyone else notice that?
