Re: Water fasting/supplements

I messed my weight up fasting when I was in my twenties so I was older than you. I was doing a great job controlling my weight with seven day fasts. Then one day I decided to take it longer. It lasted about twenty days. After the twenty day fast I felt an extreme hunger that lasted for, I'm guessing, around two or three weeks. This never happened to me on the seven day fasts. I really could not eat a lot. I was hungry, but a small amount of food would fill me up fast. The food did not stay with me long and I was hungry again so I repeated it. This extreme hunger finally left and my hunger feelings went back to normal. The thing I could never understand about all of this was why did I gain so much weight after this fast and not the several seven day fasts that I did. I know when my feelings of hunger went back to normal I ate like I did before I started the twenty day fast, but I did not lose the extra pounds that I put on after the fast. I could not understand how come I was eating the same as I did two and three months ago, but now I was carrying maybe thirty or forty more pounds with eating the same amount of food that I did before I was carrying that extra weight. Yes, fasting caused me to become obese.

After years of not being able to understand this I think I have finally figured it out. You need to understand about body weight set points. I believe that my body set a new and much higher weight set point caused by that fast. Now don't become discouraged because of my experience. You see I was very ignorant about fasting at the time and did not do things correctly. If you do things right this will not happen. You need to understand that fasting will lower your metabolism and it will take time for it to return to normal. During this period you need to make sure you are breaking the fast properly with the proper foods. If you do this you will not have an extreme weight gain. Some weight gain is normal. If you are going through a period of extreme hunger it is especially important that you are eating a lot of healthy fruits and vegetables to fill you up during this time and never junk. After recovering from the fast to keep the weight off it is best to stick to a healthy diet.

I'm not Chrisb1, but I hope that sharing my experience helps you so you do not make the same mistakes I did.
