My Candida Story
This is my first post ever on a health forum however and will be the story of my journey with Candida (I am still not cured) and is not meant to be any type of advice to other sufferers. This one is going to be a long one but I guarantee will be an interesting read
First, a bit about me – I am in tip-top shape and have no history of poor eating habits. I have no history of the use of
Antibiotics except for what you will read about in the paragraph below.
It all started when I was 20 years old in third year university and I bought into the alternative health industry to treat a short-term illness. I came down with the flu that October and stumbled upon a treatment using Oregano Oil. At first I thought Oregano Oil was the best supplement in the world – not only did I get over the flu extremely quickly but the Oregano oil did wonders for my appearance and people would comment that I looked like a movie star.
As a result, I continued faithful (excessive) use of the oregano oil on a daily basis while at the same time binge drinking at parties. My lack of understanding of Oregano Oil led me to consume it before and after drinking alcohol to the point of throwing up. Slowly but surely my health began to deteriorate. By the end of third year I cut back drastically on the use of Oregano oil and my health recovered to near perfection for a couple months. This means I used Oregano Oil, a potent natural antibiotic, for about 7 months. I then discovered Chlorella.
Really, this is the same old story all over again – I started taking Chlorella before and after drinking having read that it prevents hangovers. In the end all be all of it, I would just look horrible after drinking alcohol and taking Chlorella and I developed persistent acne. Later that summer I went travelling for two months and had a horrible diet which certainly did not help the situation.
This brings me to fourth year university. I had completely ditched the Oregano Oil and Chlorella but then discovered Salt water flushes and MSM. After taking MSM for about a month I looked the best I had ever looked. Salt water flushes also did wonders for my appearance but at the time I did not realize that a salt water flush basically flushes all bacteria out of your system. So… after taking MSM and having salt water flushes I would go out binge drinking.
MSM and alcohol do not mix well at all, I cannot stress this enough. The MSM absolutely killed my alcohol tolerance and after 6 drinks I would be considerably drunker than normal. I would speculate to say the MSM actually made me weaker overall Next thing you know, I have ditched the MSM and salt water flushes however I look the worst I have ever looked - at times, people told me I looked like I was dying.
That Christmas I went to a friend’s house and drank 8 beers and threw up everywhere. The next day I got the biggest shock of my life – a large red circle behind the back of my knee which was clearly some sort of eczema. The rash behind my knee persists to this day depending on how often and much I drink alcohol but I will get to that part later on in the story.
At this point, I started taking New Chapter turmeric capsules and again I started to look great and feel great – in fact turmeric is one of the few things I took that never gave me side effects.
Fast forward to graduation in fourth year. I went on a school graduation trip and drank (heavily) for seven days straight. To top that off, I was eating third world food which simply did not bode well with my stomach. I had loose stools the entire trip and then at the end of the trip I didn’t have a bowel movement for 3 days and when I finally did, a small amount of black stool came out, literally just black. This is when my health really took a turn for the worse. My bowel movements didn’t recover for about 4 months after that yet I continued to drink with friends. What finally helped was a magnesium supplement.
I then discovered apple cider vinegar, and once again, for a while this proved to magically make me look and feel amazing. I don’t remember why I stopped using ACV but I did.
It was about 6 months after graduating that I finally diagnosed myself with Candida – and life was shit. I was working 10 hours a day while also studying for a big exam. At this point I had basically cut out all drinking in order to try and heal however as young person it was extremely hard to do this – and you never want to tell people what you are going through.
I went through a new round of supplements – trying everything from cell food to threelac to hydrogen peroxide to liposomal vitamin c. In my opinion threelac was pure garbage however cell food had managed to raise (I am assuming) my oxygen levels considerably as my vision was so clear it amazed me. Hydrogen peroxide also proved to be a powerful tool for me and could clear my white tongue in one night – more on hydrogen peroxide later though.
Sometime later I discovered the remedies from Ted on Earth Clinic and I have basically tried everything and more that he has suggested.
One last tragic story before I get to what I have been doing as of late. Last summer I started making granola with coconut oil. It got to the point where I would go through nearly 6 kilograms of granola and a gallon of coconut oil in a month – clearly an excess. I also started taking Betain HCL pills which proved to be very effective in improving digestion and eliminating white tongue – but only temporarily. I continued the use of Betaine HCL for far too long and believe this put me into a largely acidic state. Not I cannot prove any correlation whatsoever but I can speculate that it did contribute to what happened early this year. I basically believe I developed type II diabetes or at least became pre diabetic and did not diagnose myself for several months. All of a sudden any carbohydrates and I would feel extremely tired look extremely shitty and need to take at least an hour nap. This was seriously screwing with my new routine of having to work 12+ hours per day and was very concerning. Fortunately I found a quick fixed that worked for me – 1500 mcg Chromium Chloride, some vanadium and a small piece of raw cacao weekly (thanks Ted). This treatment for diabetes has been extensively studied by the scientific community. Thank god that is over – I have no problem going all day without a nap now and can eat carbs in excess without any negative reaction.
In the past few months I have used BHT, Tannic Acid, borax, sodium thiosulphate hydrogen peroxide and of course his extremely effective alkanizing remedies.
On top of these remedies, I have literally used everything in my battle against this very annoying health problem - a wide range of Amino acids, B-vtiamins, colostrum, lactoferrin, lithium, molybdenum, zinc, aspirin, pau d’arco etc. I am looking at probably $3000 worth of supplements right now and it would be a waste of time to list them all off.
Now what have I personally found to be the most effective and what is a garbage supplement? These are only my personal findings and may not prove to the the same for anyone else.
Effective
Ted’s Remedies
Nearly every single one of Ted’s remedies, these are great.
I doubt I really need to talk about the main remedies (including molybdenum, chromium and other minerals he recommends) as they are so widely known and I am certain my health would be much worse without the use of them over the past year.
I did have a problem with Borax though – I took his remedy at his suggested dosage for four days and had some very unpleasant side effects that I would rather not share – you can PM me if you wish to know.
I will however talk about BHT and sodium thiosulphate because they are two un-orthodox treatments.
The “supplement” BHT greatly strengthens my liver, makes me look great and enables me to drink significantly more alcohol – I have not had any adverse effects from it however have largely learned my lesson about over indulgence and take it maybe once per week.
Sodium Thiosulphate in the morning on an empty stomach gives me an insane amount of energy – Ted praises it as an effective liver detoxer however warns that it is extremely reactive and should not be taken alongside other supplements – for example I made the mistake one day of taking hydrogen peroxide at night and sodium thiosulphate in the morning and simply did not feel 100%.
Red Wine
I originally tried red wine after reading the anecdotal evidence provided by a few curezone contributors. Well for me, red wine has proven for me to be one of the best anti-bacterial / antimicrobial I have ever experienced – it takes the white coating off my tongue very fast and makes me feel great. However as alcohol always flares my eczema I found a quality dealcoholized red wine to be equally as effective – just that the dealcoholized version tastes like shit.
For me red wine has been more effective than the individual use of either tannic acid or resveratrol alone, thus I believe the combination of tannins, resveratrol and polyphenols to be synergistic.
After digging up some more information I found numerous studies validating the effectiveness of red wine. Cited from the study,
“The antimicrobial activity and the phenolic composition of the tested white and red wine extracts indicate that some phenolic acids have the potential to inhibit growth of certain pathogens such as S. aureus, E. coli and C. albicans strains.”
The fully study can be read here – but what’s the point, the important information is in the unnecessarily long title.

Though this is interesting to say the least, there is
similar research on Colostrum and Lactoferrin however these supplements only make my white tongue worse / did not do anything overall for me.
Oil Pulling followed by hydrogen peroxide
I have found these two remedies to be synergistic. When I use oil pulling followed by hydrogen peroxide I wake up in the morning feeling and looking like a million bucks. When I use one or the other on its own, there is only moderate improvement.
I do not use the hydrogen peroxide treatment after I have been drinking any sort of alcohol.
Magnesium Chloride
For me, this does wonders in healing my gut and subsequently eczema.
Humic / Fulvic
These seem to have worked well to balance my PH levels – though I cut back drastically as I was using humic acid when I suddenly stopped tolerating carbs.
What didn’t work for me?
I base a lot of the supplements I use based on how the react with the consumption of alcohol.
So what reacted poorly with alcohol for me?
As previously discussed,
• Oregano Oil,
• MSM, Chlorella,
• Pau D’arco,
• Aspirin (Pau D’arco also has salicylates apparently.
These supplements destroyed my stomach lining in combination with alcohol.
What did nothing at all for me?
• Colostrum
• Lactoferrin,
• S-boulardii,
• Tannic acid on its own.
Probiotics (in excess)
Now I speculate that the wide range of probiotic’s that I attempted did nothing at all for me because I introduced them after a long course of Betaine HCL thus the probiotics only aggravated my acidic state. Who knows though, it’s anyone’s guess! Today I have approximately a tablespoon of Kefir a day and that seems to be enough for me.
For me, the whole illness started by me taking an interest into alternative health which is extremely dangerous due to its wide availability. I recently read a blog post of a man who had a similar experience through the long term use of
Colloidal Silver who does a way better job of detailing how dangerous alternative health can actually be – if I can find the blog again I will post it.
In the past three years I have discovered what hurts and what helps me and it usually all boils down to moderation – not to mention cutting down on the alcohol. I hope this read has been interesting and I look forward to contributing to the curezone community.
