PLease don't give up! This is hard but these things take awhile to even out. I agree about not wanting to take anti-depressants. I took Paxil years ago and I hated the side effects. I also don't recommend Ambien. It hasn't worked for anyone I know. Have you tried acupuncture at all? I'd also recommend seeing a chiropractor. These things help get your body healthy so it can regulate itself better. My chiro has me taking 5,000 mg of Vitamin D ( I like Nordic Naturals Brand) as well as a 100 billion potency probiotic(Nature's Way has a good one). Those have made the days much easier on me. Nights are still hard for me too. I found some nice and simple yoga routines to help me fall asleep a little better but some nights I just have to plain wear myself out. I've heard women here say that they've had great success taking herbs like melatonin, valerian root, and herbal sleep rescue remedy. I'd look into more natural ways of fixing this. I did acupuncture for Depression when I was younger and it worked so well when all the various meds they gave me only made me worse. I hope this helps a little. Stay strong, it will get better!
