DE farm vs. internet grade
I've been doing some research and the most thorough and detailed endorsment for DE I've found comes from here, the animal world:
http://wolfcreekranch1.tripod.com/diatomaceous_earth.html
They feed the pets DE 365 days per year.
They say the RDA 100lbs dog is 2 heaping tablespoons per day. That is considered the adequate amount for at least 30-45 days for
Tapeworm or 90 days for lung worms. ( I am tempted to extrapolate this out to human consumption)
To me that would be the goal to work up to for serious
parasite problems.
Dave505, you note kidney pain while taking DE on 2 occaisions? That is kind of scary. I'm a little bit worried about the safety of DE.
Also note this. The first time I tried DE I got mine from tractor supply - chemical codex food grade (pictures of farm animals on the bag, heavy 20lbs contains
Bentonite clay).
I got kidney pain from this stuff. It is coarse like sand and darker in color. It feels somewhat gritty/abraisive coming out of you. If the kidney pain is from detox that is one thing, but if it's de in circulation where it does not belong. That is REALLY, REALLY bad.
Then I ordered some DE from Swanson Vitamins (12oz) that clearly is for human consumption, also says the same thing - chemical codex food grade. However, this stuff is white, and very light, very fine powder. Very much NOT like the other. I can see the slicing and dicing action of the farm stuff. But the fine white DE not so much. Probably works by slowly dehydrating. can't see it cutting anything.
Just wanted to let people know there are different types for "food grade" out there. I can't really comment beyond that other than I suspect the people stuff is safer and gentler, while the farm stuff is probably more effective, not gentle and maybe, maybe not, "as safe" I don't know. That's what I would like to know.
If anyone can detail their long term (or short) use of DE, that would be great. thanks
