Hi SpiritualHeartYogi,

There is no agreement on this question.  I believe that the transit time that food remains in your digestive system is much more important as to how many BMs one has in a day. My preference is this, from the time you swallow your food until the time you defecate it, should be between 18 hrs and 36 hrs.

I do this test by eating a half a box of frozen yellow corn (cooked, of course) with a meal. Take note of the time and watch your BMs from the next few days to see how long it takes to see the corn. I have used color plastic beads (non toxic) instead of corn. I believe that some people use red beets instead of corn.  What ever works is okay.
