O/T Iodine and the Vitamin D Connection...
Hi all,
I posted some on this subject over 3 years ago...**
Interesting that this guy lost his libido from high dose Iodine. Over 200 mg's of
Iodine and painting the
Iodine was nothing less than spectacular for my libido!
I was taking over 2000 Iu's of D3 at the time also.
I take over 8000 iu's of D3 now.

There seems to be a connection between bringing sufficient
Iodine to a bromine-plugged thyroid, and the vitamin D metabolism of the body. The calcitonin/parathyroid hormone/Vitamin D/calcium balance in the body changes as people on iodine-loading programs often register as vitamin D deficient when they did not previously. When people are given calcitonin as part of an osteoporosis program one of the side effects mentioned is a "flushing sensation of the skin".
Dr. Brice Vickery relates, “I have had two iodine-loading , high bromine patients who during the lowering of their bromine levels registered as iodine deficient and mentioned "a sunburn flushed feeling on the skin of their faces, arms and back" This flushing disappeared with vitamin D3 supplementation at 2000 IU daily for a limited period of time”."

I experimented with high dosage Iodine at 300MG a day in early september and completely lost my libido. I had been taking 50-100MG prior to that(with cofactors) and everything was fine. Since I was already taking 5000IU of Vitamin D3 a day I did not assume that I could have become Vitamin D/Calcium deficient. After weeks of research I finally came across this and started taking higher dosages of Vitamin D3 a day like 20,000IU and adding alot of Calcium in my diet from drinking loads of Milk and also EggShell Calcium(Got the idea from DannyRoddy.com) and things have slowly started to improve.
So this maybe the reason why some folks who take Iodine lose their libido. They could have been borderline Vitamin D deficient or have taken too much iodine from the get go.
When supplementing to optimize thyroid must consider calcitonin/parathyroid hormone/Vitamin D/calcium balance:
