Scabies

I have read that scabies cannot live for more than 3 days without their blood meal.

If this is so, why is it necessary to clean everything in hot water/hot dryer and sprinkle DE all over the place? Once the parasite is diagnosed and treated, why not simply evacuate the home for a few days?

I'd love to know because it seems that there are a few cases of Norwegian Scabies locally.
