Should you take drugs that tinker with your brain chemicals to alleviate the chemical imbalances that make you nuts? Or should you fix your guts? I say start at the likely culprit, the chemical imbalance caused by the guts. Protecting intestinal integrity becomes of the highest import.
Job one is to honestly consider the state of your digestion and nutrient absorption. Does your stomach have a good, healthy growl when hungry? If not, something is wrong. Are those stools floating? You can't be digesting fats and oils then. Consider digestive enzymes, and Hydrochloric Acid supplementation for those who are low on stomach acid. Leaky Gut Syndrome, or LGS, is the name for that host of symptoms which result from hyper-permeability of the intestines. Undigested food particles are allowed to leak into the bloodstream--as are yeast and parasites--and can cause a chronic sub-acute allergic reaction, not to mention the attendant toxicity.
Leaky Gut Syndrome can be caused by Gluten Intolerance, stripping the little fingers, villi, off of the intestinal wall. Avoid the B.R.O.W.S. foods: Barley, Rye, Oats, Wheat, Spelt.

Leaky Gut Syndrome can be caused by toxicity from Hypo-thyroidism (low thyroid levels) causing low motility, or movement, along the intestinal tract, letting toxins hammer at the gut wall. Petrochemicals, burnt or hydrogenated "fake" fats in our food lay there and uptake into the gut wall. Chemically, it looks like a real oil to the body.
