Chinese medicine
I'm going to stick my neck out and say try Chinese Medicine for depression. I use Bu Zhong yi qi Wan. This is the product I take:

A few years ago I consulted a respected Chinese Doctor (also trained to work in Western Medicine). My specific problem was constipation. I tried out a few different Chinese meds. The constipation was not resolved but I noticed that this particular medicine effected a huge change in mood and energy level. It is a tonic specifically for the spleen. My Chinese doctor used products from this manufacturer and later I found I could order the product on line. I continue to take a tiny amount – just 2 of the tiny pills a day and I often stop altogether.
Last year my brother tried to commit suicide and was in a desperate state. I gave him this medicine and he said it had a positive effect. I must say that he did not take it for long but shortly after he claimed that his
Depression was gone. There could have been other reasons for the improvement (but not anti-depressants).
Two important things: it is always recommended to consult a Chinese doctor before you take Chinese medicine as you should really have a personal assessment to find the meds that suit your unique requirements. Also, some brands, available on line, mention ginseng. I don’t think this particular brand has ginseng in it unless it comes under a different name. I don’t know if ginseng is good or bad. All I know is that I have taken this product with beneficial effect.
Hope this helps.
