Re: Alternating between water fasting and dry fasting.

Hi Jack,

Where did you read about electrolytes being washed out while Water Fasting ?

I agree, I am currently doing quite a bit of study into this matter, the fact is that urine does contain trace minerals/salts (electrolytes) which surely would be better retained by the body so as to avoid dehydration.

When I first started Water Fasting I did a lot of reading/searching on here as to whether distilled water was safe to drink/while fasting, I eventually settled on an answer by chrisb that the kidneys only get rid of what the body doesn't need and that distilled water does not leach minerals from the body. I now personally feel that was a mistake and that that answer was wrong and in fact very dangerous advice, no disrespect to chrisb, he seemed liked the best guru on here at the time, but I think its bad advice.

Solid evidence on the effect of distilled water is hard to come by and there is a lot of conflicting stories, but I have now decided from everything that I have read that it should be avoided, especially when fasting as it will remove electrolytes from your body much faster and could lead to death as a result.

The fact is that the kidneys do filter out some of the trace minerals/salts (electrolytes) from the water in the blood which becomes urine, but not all of them, the kidneys do have a limitation and some of these minerals do get lost, I am hoping to get an definite answer quite soon, but I think it might be as simple as the kidneys can only filter out X% of the minerals in Y amount of time, the kidneys are good filters but not perfect and some stuff gets through before the kidneys have time to filter it.
If you drink distilled water then the fact is chances are once it gets into the blood your blood will pick up more of these trace minerals by leaching them from other parts of the body.

If you lookup urine on wikipedia than you will see these minerals in its composition. The kidneys try to maintain a balance, but I think it only works as intended when you are eating normally and not drinking alcohol, ie. urinating at a normal rate.

I see no point in water fasting, what you say here :a short Water Fast before a dry fast would make sure the body has got rid of excess salt and other substances, which need water in order to be removed: doesn't make much sense to me, if you have a healthy Diet before the dry fast then there is plenty of water to get rid of excess salts, during my long dry fasts the amount I was urinating was increasing for the first 3 days.

My advice to you would be to just do a dry fast and forget about water fasting, otherwise you get caught up in the age-old questions, what water should I drink ? how much should I drink ?
Ironically I think dry-fasting is much safer than water fasting, and at the end you are likely to have more electrolytes retained in your body and its the loss of electrolytes that is most likely to kill you.
That said, you should still end a dry fast with an electrolyte replacement solution.

Even the WHO say that distilled water is dangerous http://www.live-in-green.com/health_info/problematic_products/demineralised_w...
