Re: Need some advice, Chris B? I broke a 24 day fast having trouble...
Hello John and a big welcome for posting.
I too have suffered from severe
Depression as a lifelong illness, but finally eradicated this thru targeted nutritional means; most all
Depression has a physiological basis despite what others may tell you.
Before I go back to that subject, it may have been a wiser choice to have broken your fast with fresh juices, because unless natural hunger has returned (which it doesn't in the majority of cases) digestion has to be re-nurtured back into its full vigour over a period of time.
After 24 days of fasting you will need foods that will kick-start your glucose metabolism (the Brain feeds on glucose) or the bodys main fuel supply and where a lack of this can result in
Depression during ketosis; this is temporary however. Some people are more sensitive to nutrition or the lack of it as I am, so you will need to eat some dates, making sure they are well masticated before swallowing and only in minimal quantities. This should make a significant difference in your mental outlook
I would avoid fasting to completion unless under qualified supervision, so in your shoes I would eat a miniscule fresh and plant-based diet, after a few days of juicing, based on appetite which will become stronger as digestion improves. It is said that we should give at least an equal number of days in refeeding as the fast itself to recuperate and resume a normal active life.
All you need is time John, so please be patient, no matter how difficult this period is for you.
Chrisb1.
