I'd be inclined to suspect big Pharma, too, were I not also getting hemorrhoids that I directly relate to drinking kefir the day before. And the larger amount I drink, the worse they are. But there is some comfort in knowing that I'm not the first person to discover a relationship. I'm sure there is some reason why kefir affects some people this way, and just as sure that no doctor is going to figure it out, since they still act like your parts all function independently of one another and that bacteria are bad.
My suspicion is that years of Antibiotic therapy for recurrent urinary infections has created a major imbalance of my personal biome and that adding certain pro-biotics does not bring my personal biome back into balance. Too bad Science is only just looking into the nature of our biotic communities.
