Also, for those who don't have the patience or time to read the articles, one of the subjects is said to be in good health except for having a lot of urates in the urine. And the other subject is said to have symptoms of neurasthenia, an antiquated diagnosis that means "a condition with symptoms of fatigue, anxiety, headache, neuralgia and depressed mood." [Wikipedia] One of the subjects' lip cultures also tests positive for several strains of bacteria.

But it is important to note that the good doctor Stelwagon, while "at a loss" to explain the condition, rules out eczema because of the lack of "hyperemia, exudation, vesicular or papular formation, and swelling" other than minor swelling right after exfoliation of multiple crusts.
