journal article on EC from 1902 (with pics!)
Wanted to share this journal article with everyone, from 1902. Describes EC as a rare kind of "eczema" that only affected the vermillion area of the lips in rare cases, and did not show significant puffiness or swelling. Also describes the cases as having concurrent "eruption of the scalp." If you're interested, here is a link to a discussion of the cases in greater detail, with other dermatologists commenting on their own experiences with EC. The pictures should look eerily familiar and the description of milky white coating under crusts, layers growing upon layers, and the fact that one case started in the upper middle portion and gradually spread should ring true for a lot of us:
I know this doesn't help us a ton 110 years later, but hey, a good case study in EC is hard to come by, and I just find it interesting to see my condition described so long ago (I have had flaking on the scalp since I got this condition and have shown very little inflammation). Also, a note on 21st century EC pictures, at first I thought wow, all these people have fat, inflamed lips, but after uploading a lot of my own pics, I realized that when the aspect ratio is off, it makes the lips look swollen and fatter than they are. I tried to make them look more accurate on the Case Histories section of the wiki.
Also, if we have pics from 1902 in the Image Gallery, I think it's high time we had pics from all the people who never post up in the Image Gallery. Start your own folder in the Peeling Lips Images folder. Or better yet, create a Case History with pics on the wiki, since Curezone won't let you delete photos off its server if you make a mistake or want to update. C'mon it's anonymous!! For posterity's sake!
Peace,
C.S.
