Re: Scams
This past Saturday morning I got to the job early in heavy rain. I got to the job and put my truck in reverse to back and unload but it wouldn't, then I tried driving forward and it was stuck in high gear.
Panicked I phoned the Amco Transmission shop who arranged for a wrecker who also dropped me off at the rent car place.
Shop not open Saturday so it would be Monday before getting first word.
Saturday evening after work I Googled my symptoms and came up with a park/start/backup switch that is prone to moisture contamination and when wet limits gear selection (I drove to work in heavy rain). Best of all it is an externally mounted one beer job.
Monday morning I was waiting at their shop when it opened and drove my truck, the part had dried out and was working fine. Paid my wrecker bill and left.
I checked the part price at the discount parts store and they had a Borg Warner brand for $180.00. I went directly to the Allison Dealer who made the transmission and bought the genuine part for $84.00.
So it cost me towing $110, rental truck two days $108, $84 for the part. I haven't installed it yet but hoping for dry weather until. I run 12 hours a day and it's hard to find 15 minutes of daylight for a personal problem.
Had this same situation happened to a beautifully dumb woman it may have run well over $1000.
