Re: question about lecithin and Vitamin d3
braindamage,
Low vitamin D levels can cause low calcium levels, or hypocalcemia, whereas high Vitamin D levels can cause hypercalcemia (excess calcium in the blood) which CAN cause kidney stones. As most people are vitamin D deficient, this is highly unlikely in the majority of cases.
The best source of Vitamin D, sunlight exposure, does not result in either, because the body regulates its production, but supplements are another matter. Bearing in mind that sunlight will produce in excess of 20,000ius within a half hour exposure to sunlight, so supplementing with less than this is usually recommended in the absence of sunlight.
Sunlight exposure has long been considered extremely beneficial in disorder of the skin.
"The largest study that looked at the risk of
kidney stones with vitamin D came out of Harvard. They studied 45,616 men over 14 years for a total of 477,000 person-years of follow up. They found no increased risk of
kidney stones with vitamin D intake but did not look at sun exposure or 25(OH)D levels"...................
