Agreeing with and adding to what has already been said:

Install Linux.

Everything in Linux is free.

You can easily set up a computer to run both Window$ and Linux, so you can still use Windows while you are becoming familiar with Linux. But only use Linux on the internet.

After you are familiar with Linux, learn how to set up a firewall, to prevent anything undesirable getting into your computer.
