Sorry for posting here but I know some of you guys better than others on other forums. Since you use computers lol thought you might know the answer.
Had a trojen (sp?) a few months back...had to take the computer to have it cleaned and restored. Doing fine for a while then the last couple of days I keep picking up another trojen.
I've run malwarebytes (which was installed at the time of cleaning & restoring) which is suppose to be one of the best and it was picking them up and getting rid of them, the last couple of days.
Now all of a sudden it's not picking it up. I know I have another one though because of the way the computer is behaving. Exp: I google something and click on a reliable link and the info on the link is rerouted to an advertisement.
So...any ideas (other than taking it back to the computer shop)to find/clear this bugger?

There's free anti-virus software to help clear trojans like AVG or Avast.

Whatever you do, ONLY install one of these programs at a time. If you try one and it does not work OR does not work properly, UNINSTALL the anti-virus program first before you install another. Two or more anti-virus software installed on the same OS/Computer will often screw up scanning properly as they run in the computer's memory at the same time.
Pretty much, install one of those free programs.
Uninstall/Remove one before installing another.

This is a reply to # 1,964,914I have malwarbytes. Are these better, different? I mean should I keep malwarbytes and then add one of these?
I thought malwarbytes was the best in removing trojens ... that is one of the reasons I'm confused.

Are u clearing your cache and runing malwarebytes in SafeMode?
Also, install spybot search & destroy.
Keep all of them updated daily.
If u r using Firefox, install the NoScript add-on and it will stop scripts on pages and u can choose to run them or not.

you folks are making my skin crawl.
ubuntu with firefox. i have never had those problems for years now. i wouldnt touch windows with YOUR computer. lolol not only that, its way faster and my old clunker will still run for years to come. with windows, it was already obsolete. this is a dell 620. my other computer is a dell 260 running mint. :) and it still does everything but play HD vids. i never turn my computer off. i never have to reboot it except to install automatic upgrades when requested. it is amazing. no viruses, no hijacks - nuthin. and there is a new version of ubuntu out that i have not upgraded to!

I have 2 computers with ubuntu, but I cannot use it with my magic jack.
That is the ONLY reason I am still stuck with windblows box.
I hate microshaft and have repeatedly complained to magic jack support to get that linux plugin going, but they don't care about that part of the market share.
The only problem with linux is that it is not user friendly and I wish I would have used it for more years than a few.

This is a reply to # 1,964,997i havent had any issues but i dont use it for much but the web. i was using firefox with windows anyway. i dont like windows but i deplore IE. i have used opera, safari and chrome with better results than explorer.
everything i need to do seems to be met by the suite offered with ubuntu. i can view word documents and such. i wish i had a better photo program, but i dont use that either. others do a just fine job for my purposes. i use google a lot. they can hang me if they want. i do steer clear of all the other web stuff - facebook and twitter and all. i have a stack of linkedin invites and facebook inquiries. i guess i joined facebook in a weak moment one time.
anywho, this thing runs reliably and i dont have to worry about viruses. thats good enough for me.- Re: O/T Computer issue question? paraboy

Best is a relative term. While I like Malwarebytes too, dedicated virus scanners like AVG, Avast, and even Avira help to prevent more potential viruses (including Trojans).
I didn't read your original post quite closely, but a google redirection problem is quite common and abused frequently. Bing and Yahoo are plagued with it too. It doesn't have to be a Virus or Trojan either, it could be some configuration issues that something modified. What Internet Browser are you using?!
Here's a site with Help for Internet Explorer Google Redirection problems. I've found that sometimes your LAN settings will have Proxy enabled to redirect your Google searches or a custom DNS server to drive you toward unwanted advertisements.

Install Linux.
Everything in Linux is free.
You can easily set up a computer to run both Window$ and Linux, so you can still use Windows while you are becoming familiar with Linux. But only use Linux on the internet.
After you are familiar with Linux, learn how to set up a firewall, to prevent anything undesirable getting into your computer. - Re: O/T Computer issue question? Bugsy193

This is a reply to # 1,964,909On my Win7 home computer I'm running AVG to keep virus/trojan free and once in awhile I'll scan the PC with Malwarebytes. 100% bug-free for years.
We use Malwarebytes at work to cleanup all the spyware/malware, it works great, make sure you update it before you run a scan. If Malwarebytes is removing something bad and it comes right back you should boot the computer into safe-mode and run a scan. If that doesn't remove the little buggers then the best solution might be to backup your data, wipe out the harddrive and reinstall the OS of your choice.

My computer did crash after trying to find the little bugger and remove it. As I tried to remove it, it continued to get smarter until it finally just crashed.
I took it to have it wiped and restored. Just got it back today. The service guy told me that from the description I gave of how it was behaving he believes I had the trojan called Alureon. He said that with this type of trojan ... most software won't be successful at killing it and the only thing you can do is clear it and restore it.
I hope he's telling the truth and he didn't just give me the dang bug when he fixed it the last time lol.
