Re: Another case of why Blastocystis is NOT PATHOGENIC, but somethign else always the problem...
Shrimpy..
I have been reading and reading your posts and you really seems to trust this Dr. Cahill. I went to see him and he gave me a diagnosis of giardia and charcot layden crystals. the reason why I feels so frustrated about having had paid $500 for this, is that he did not even spend 5 minutes with me to explain what the charcot layden crystals are, and also because to treat the giardia and the C. crystals he sent cypro and flagyl at no more the 150mg. so, here is my problem .. I am not sure how such expert doctor would prescribe the least potent drugs for something he probably routinely diagnosis, such as giardia. I do not know much about these microorganisms, but I did read that metronidazole does more harm that good. And of course, I did not even consider doing this ridiculous treatment. Not even my PCP agreed with this treatment..and told me not to take flagyl because of resistance. She instead sent albendazol + iodiquinol and septra for 30 days. Not like it helped either, but that is another story. Anyway, I was really expecting so much more from him. After all, he has all this knowledge and experience.
I do not know as much as you do, but I am searching for what you got from Dr. cahill. Maybe you were among the FEW lucky ones he get to prescribe appropriately, otherwise tell me, would you have taken the meds he sent me?
I do think that if people have the money, they can spend it however they want, but the truth is, if people are like me, they are probably spending a lot trying to improve their health and $500 adds up.
I agree with you, we should not be taking whatever meds we want, but that is why we need to work with Drs to try to find something that works for us, but in my case, a trip to the top notch parasitologist in NYC did not provide that. instead it left me even more disappointed about Drs and more lost.
