Re: How Did Sex Originate?

How Did Sex Originate?

My opinion as a layperson Mighty.Sun.Tzu

Sex, the question is how did it get here?
The question assumes that humans were indeed asexual in some respects does it not:)

Asexual creatures are cloned within a certain criteria to carry out simple tasks in nature, where "cloning" would not be detrimental to the species living within a particular environment.

Whereas a vastly more complex species such as ourselves need sexua| reproduction that provides the best defense against the rapidly reproducing, infectious species that threaten the existence of organisms. The diversity in the species that results from combining different gene pools favours the survival of those that are sexually reproduced over those that by Cloning inherit repetitive genetic similarity.

Intelligent design? Does that actually exist or could one call it 'natures design' for the survival of the species?

So where did sex originate? I would conclude it was when complex life originated. How did it all evolve? Well perhaps the oceans that surround us might one day reveal the answer:)
