If you want to stay on this subject you can go back to 1520 and Martin Luther.

Lets tell a part of the story few hear these days, after all propaganda does not want to tell..

The translation to German of the Bible was triggered by Plenary Indulgences, which apparently are available again for Gold..

But underneath it all was the slow destruction of the official bible. Bibles back in those days where copied by hand and every few months a new order comes in from Rome to alter a phrase here and there. Now the monks that do the copying keep track of this in margin notes and soon it became apparent that entire meanings are altered and lost.

Plenary Indulgences was simply the last straw.. Lets not forget that 3 Churchly assasination teams sent to kill him ..
