Re: Testosterone and estrogen

What is the deal with testosterone and estrogen.

Do they need to balance?

Not really.  In men the testosterone should be dominant.

I.e. if you had to much testosterone would that lower estrogen, and vice version, to much estrogen would lower testosterone?

Yes.

This is in a male adult by the way.

Or could you have both high estrogen and high testosterone and high estrogen at the same time, and low estrogen and low testosterone at the same time.

They are antagonistic to each other so high levels of one will suppress the other.  It would be unlikely to have low levels of both.  What sometimes happens is that a high aromatase activity will drop testosterone levels while increasing estrogen levels.

Also what vitamin supps can increase testosterone levels? I read on vitamin A, E and zinc - if taken at heavy dose could raise testosterone?

Vitamin A is quite toxic at high doses and can damage the bone in lower levels than needed to damage the liver.  High levels of vitamin E can create hormonal issues and is not recommended either.  On vitamin E it is best to stay within 400IU daily.  Zinc is the primary nutrient I recommend, but again not in high doses.  I recommend no more than 50mg daily since high doses of zinc can create problems such as immune suppression.

What vits/mins could do the same for estrgoen?

Unless you are trying to grow breasts I would not recommend fooling with your estrogen levels.

And finally can you explain this to me:

http://www.diagnose-me.com/cond/C569738.html

"Recommendations and treatments for High Male Testosterone Level:

Extract Not recommended:
DIM (di-indolmethane)/I3C (Indole-3-Carbinol) Aromatase inhibitors such as DIM, I3C, and Chrysin should be avoided, as they will enhance any preexisting androgen/estrogen dominance. "

That to me reads if you have high testosterone dont take indole 3 carbinal as it will likely enhance estrogen dominance, when I though indole-3-carbonol was actually used to LOWER estrogen?

You are right, that does not make sense.  They are admitting that these are aromatase inhibitors.  Aromatase inhibitors block the conversion of testosterone in to estrogen to maintain testosterone levels.

DIM is actually an estrogen antagonist. And I3C does promote estrogen metabolism to help with elimination.

So what the hell is that on about?

I am not sure where they are getting their information or how they came to their conclusions.

And why is it on about estrogen dominance when its a link on about risk factors for high testosterone?

I don't know, to me their information is contradictory.

Thats where i though low or high estrogen may make you prone to alos high testosterone?

Actually high estrogen in men would result in low testosterone in men from a higher aromatase activity.
