Re: Ozone and clothing - no laundromat!?
I'm wondering if I can use ozone on my 100% cotton or 100% superfine wool winter clothing to remove the expected odor from prolong wear, without having to go to the laundromat.
Funny you should mention this. Back a while ago I saw an article about manufacturers were designing washing machines that would inject ozone in to the water to help with increasing the cleaning power. I have not seen them hit the market yet though.
Ozone will help remove odors from clothes if dry. For stains it would require moisture since oxidizers work in the presence of moisture. Although this could also lead to clothes fading. Also keep in mind that ozone will destroy rubber rapidly, such as any rubber in elastic bands.
I have to wash my wool clothing in cold water, which is nasty water full of bacteria not to mention a nasty laundromat and really despise it.
So I was thinking that if I can remove the odors with ozone bagging, remove the stains by washing spots in my sink, I can skip the laundromat for a long time or maybe indefinitely.
What do you think? Also, do the clothes need to be wet to be cleaned by ozone or should they be dry? Why does produce need to be wet to be cleaned by ozone?
I would stick primarily to dry ozonating for odor removal. The absence of moisture will reduce the risk of fading.
sidenote:
ozone facial steamers - good for our skin but wouldn't they get ozone in our lungs and damage us??
The amount of ozone used in these streamers is very low, in levels not high enough to be an issue. The steam further breaks down the ozone rapidly.
